THE REAL MAN'S BREAKFAST
CHAPTER 22 SLANDERING AND EXPLOITATION
THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF HARMFUL WORDS AND GREED
Slandering is defined as the act of making false, damaging spoken statements about someone. Its effects are especially destructive because families are built on trust, mutual respect, and shared reputation. In short, it is making demeaning and disdaining statements about someone.
How can you trust someone who demeans you? This kind of person acts like a time bomb. This is a very destructive habit. As men or couples, we should know that we are a reflection of our partners, what we do to them is as good as doing to ourselves.
Breakdown of trust: False accusations erode the foundation of trust between family members. When someone is slandered, others may begin to doubt their integrity or motives, even without evidence. This suspicion can linger, making it difficult to repair relationships.
Exacerbation of existing tensions: In emotionally charged situations, slander can inflame already sensitive issues. Slanderous accusations can turn grief into prolonged conflict, making it nearly impossible to resolve disputes amicably. This often results in fractured family bonds that may never fully heal.
Emotional strain: Defending oneself against slander is emotionally taxing and can lead to anxiety, depression, or alienation. Alienation is isolating oneself, so ordinarily people use what they have to fight their battles, some use finances to frustrate their partners, trying to fight back, others use what God gave them for posterity.
Reputational damage in the community: Slander can extend beyond the immediate family, affecting how extended family, friends, and the broader community perceive the targeted individual. This can lead to social isolation and further undermine family unity. Among other things, we should shun as a family slandering one another; a home is a place of comfort and safety. We all want to feel safe at home and be comfortable with one another.
Exploitation is taking unfair advantage of someone else for personal gain. There are many forms of exploitation, including financial and sexual. This habit is very detrimental to marriages and yields a negative connotation. People who take advantage of others do not just lose dignity, but they also become seeds of decadence because their contribution to society degrades the values of humanity. As men, we should always try to be vigilant, notice when we are being exploited and also when we don't lead by example.
